Leading Your Team to Success

Whether your home based business is an MLM business or a home franchise, you are likely a member of a team that makes the business successful. Many of us who work from home find ourselves in leadership roles in our business. Perhaps you have a network marketing business and want to build a strong downline. Or maybe you have an internet based business and have employees you supervise. Regardless of your type of home business, honing your leadership skills will bring more success to you and your whole team.

Lead by Example - Strong leaders do not follow the "do as I say, not as I do" model. Rather, they lead by example. Show your employees or downline folks what you expect by doing it. If you have a network marketing business, have your new recruits attend one of your home parties to see you in action. If you market by phone, let them listen in on a call.

Help Set Goals - Before observing your trainees in action, ask them what skills they think they need to improve upon in their business. Help them set realistic goals for improvement in these areas. Then observe them in action, attend one of their parties or listen in a call.

Offer Relevant and Constructive Feedback - You should observe your trainees so that you can offer relevant and constructive feedback. Keep their goals in mind and comment on how they did in those specific areas. Offer ideas for improvement based on your experience. Remember, each downline recruit or employee will have different areas they need to work on, so personalize the training and you will see more success.

Encourage Interaction - Just as a soccer team will lose if the team members don't communicate well, so a home based business team will be less successful if the members do not interact. Encourage people to share their ideas, their success, and even their struggles. In the age of internet communication this can easily be accomplished on a blog site for your business. And again, you lead by example and be the first one to put your thoughts out there for others to see. Respond to any questions or problems posed by team members; others will soon join in and follow suit. Doing this in an open forum is often more beneficial than individual emails, as everyone learns from the communal postings. However, if there are more personal issues to address, individual communication via email or phone is much more appropriate.

Most people who search out home business opportunities enjoy talking with people. So let your leadership style cater to personal connections rather than mass mailings of articles to read. On that note, this article ends and challenges you to lead your home business team to success!
