Because you will likely be working from home, the place to start is to establish a clear delineation with your work at home space from your living/family space. If a separate room is not available, use screens, bookcases or curtains to create a clear physical boundary between your home space and your work space.

When stepping into your home office space, you want to feel both serenity and prosperity. This feeling can be established by working with a few fundamental principles:

Leafy green plants are important to have in your home office, especially on the left corner of your desk. It is important to maintain all plants in the office, and keep them clean and well watered. Have both light and dark colors to balance the yin and yang energies.

Keep Abreast of Maintenance. Fix any broken drawers or handles. Secure all cords or wires (staple to underside of desk) and keep them out of view so that the flow of chi is not blocked.

Offer Comfort. Have sturdy, comfortable furniture. Use an ergonomically supportive chair to sit in. Use full-spectrum lighting without a strong glare, and supplement overhead lighting with task lighting when needed.

Eliminate Arrows. Look around your home office space for ‘arrows’; areas like corners of pillars, or desks that point to a place where a person will be. A long hallway can also act as an ‘arrow’. Avoid these pointing at you or your client by rearranging furniture, or soften them with fabric or plants.

And the wood element is easy to incorporate with a wood desk or shelf. Fountains are a popular way to bring in the water element. The Southeast corner, which represents wealth and prosperity, is very important to activate in a home based business. You can do that with fountains, or fish or even pictures of fish. Eggs, a bell, or coins in a red envelope are some other objects that can bring flourishing chi to the prosperity corner If you keep money or have financial documents in your office, this would be the place for storage.

The South side represents fame, which is important if your home business opportunity depends on public recognition for success. Bringing the color red into the south side of your office will activate this area for you.

The Northwest corner represents networking, communication and connection. Metal is the element that activates this area, which can be established easily if you have a metal filing cabinet that fits here. Large crystals will also work.

The North side represents career. Adding the water element here will boost the success of anyone working in the office This can be achieved with actual water, like in a fountain, or with an image of water.

Treat your computer with the same clean up as your office. Eliminate the clutter of old emails and files. Make sure your computer is virus free. Program a pleasant screen saver, such as a photo of nature. A potted plant placed next to your computer can absorb a lot of the negative chi it produces Since most computer screens actually attract dust with their heat, it is important to create a daily ritual of cleaning your screen every day before beginning work. A clean screen will help your eyes, as well as your chi.
