Taking Your Business on the Road

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Some people like owning a home business because they enjoy working from home and not having to go anywhere. Other people like the flexibility of a home based business opportunity that lets them travel and take their work with them. If you are a greeting card writer, home may be where the heart is. But if you are a home business owner, your home office is where your laptop and cell phone are. (more…)

My Space

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Ok, I admit it. “My Space” is not my own creatively designed page on the enormously popular website. For me, “My Space” is my home office. A couple of years ago I left my 9-5 job and now I work out of my home. I don’t miss the sterile building I worked in previously. My home office is painted a beautiful shade of shallow water green that reminds me of vacations in the Caribbean. And, since I am my own boss at my home based business, I get to take those Caribbean vacations whenever I want! (Panama is my favorite destination by the way!) (more…)

Are you a Nomad?

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Home Based Business Card Blunders

Monday, February 4th, 2008

You’re at your kid’s baseball game and you find yourself talking about your home based business with another parent. After the game, she asks for your card. Your face flushes, your stumble over your words, you pull out a pen and a scrap of paper and jot down your info.

Not the best impression, right?

A personal business card is one of the best tools you can have for your home-based business. To get it right, avoid making these common blunders:

Do you need to Insure Your Home Business?

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

What would you do if disaster struck your home, taking the tools for your home business with it?

Chances are you’d refer to your homeowner’s policy, assuming it protected you and your business.

Sadly, you’d probably be shocked. (more…)

Increasing Productivity When You Work at Home

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

When I tell friends that I work from home, most usually say, “There’s no way I could do that. I’d never get anything done!” There are days when that’s certainly true. The laundry pile is too high, the dust bunnies in the corner are planning a coup, a child is sick – anyone of those things can pull me away from my work as a freelance writer. Add to that my husband - who also works from home - and our house is frequently a volcano waiting to explode. (more…)
